Grading Scales Around the World
Global Perspective on Grades
Not every country uses the A-F letter system. Understanding these differences is crucial for international students and those looking to study abroad.
United Kingdom (UK) Grading
In the UK, universities typically use Honors Classes: First Class (70%+), Upper Second (60-69%), and Lower Second (50-59%). Unlike in the US, getting a 70% is often considered an exceptional achievement. Use our UK Grade Calculator to see your degree classification.
Australia and Canada
Australia uses High Distinction (HD), Distinction (D), and Credit (C). Canada's system varies by province but often uses a mix of percentages and letter grades similar to the US but with different cutoff points. You can track your marks with our Australia Grade Calculator and Canada Grade Calculator.
Standardizing Your Grades
If you are applying to schools in a different country, you will likely need a credential evaluation service to "translate" your local marks into the target country's scale. Our Grade Scale Calculator can help you visualize these differences.
